HYANNIS (CAPE COD TIMES) - U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy attempted to rescue six men who had become trapped by high tide on a jetty off Hyannisport yesterday morning, though he eventually left the rescue to Hyannis firefighters. While Teddy is to be commended for his actions yesterday, it in no way makes up for his conduct the last time an water rescue was required - just ask Mary Jo Kopechne's family...Kennedy was walking his two Portuguese waterdogs on the shore at about 11:15 a.m. when he spotted the men, all in their 20s and from off-Cape, cut off from the shore by rising waters on a jetty that begins at the tip of the Kennedy compound, Hyannis Capt. Craig Farrenkopf said.
Kennedy and a friend tried to retrieve the men in a 13-foot Whaler before rough waters forced them back. Soon after, a crew from the Hyannis Fire Department picked up the men, in three trips, and brought them back to shore. They were taken to Cape Cod Hospital with mild hypothermia, Farrenkopf said.

In 1992, I saw Micheal Kennedy (the one who slept with the 15 year old babysitter and later died skiing) and Bobby Jr. rescue 3 immigrant fisherman from the same jetty!
The Jetty goes out from the land near the Kennedy Compound and when the wind picks up, the waves come up over the jetty and cuts the fishermen off from shore.
Recusing fishermen is a Kennedy family tradition (like date rape and satutory rape!)

Seeing Teddy coming to your rescue in a boat must be a lot like seeing Jeffrey Dahmer walk past your window when your arm is stuck in a sausage grinder. The urge to act like you don't really need help must be incredibly strong.

The only difference between now and then is that Kennedy actually went for help a bit quicker this time.
If the jetty is a location for frequent "heroic rescues" by Kennedys, I think the Kennedys use that jetty as hero-bait.
Is there a sign marking the danger of the jetty? Or does Ted keep running it over on beer runs?

I do sense a bit of irony in the fact that Teddy tried to use a "13-foot Whaler" during his rescue.
Does the compound keep the boat handy just in case they need to rescue him?

Maybe I'm crazy but at no point in the story does it actually say that Teddy went for help, radioed for h elp, swam across the bay for help, went to a local Quickie Mart for cigarettes and remarked, oh by the way, there's a few fishermen stuck on a reef out there, or at least there was 12 hours ago.
My guess is that the headline writer suffers from Kennedy Worship Syndrome.
