Not only that, but department store clerks are MUCH more helpful near closing time, when they are trying to get you the hell out of a store so that they can go home.
24-hour Wal-Mart is the giant exception, though. I swear that there are more people in line at two o'clock in the morning than at any other time.

Not only that, but the bread is usually fresher too.

I've noticed something like that too, and the obvious reason, to me, was that they have fewer checkers at that hour.
Though having been in Wal-Mart during normal daytime hours since then, I'm not sure how "fewer checkers" is possible...

My mom worked nights as an RN, she would often do her grocery shopping in the wee hours of the morning at the 24 hour grocery and later Walmart, when it opened 24 hours, because it wasn't as crowded.
Not sure how well the produce aisle was stocked though.

Zsa Zsa,
We have no lives. We are so desperate for human contact that we will venture out to Wal-Mart at 2AM.
Yeah, that's gotta be it.

What's going to Wal-Mart at 2:00 a.m. got to do with "human contact"?
