Jaques Chirac has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin, two days after French people rejected the EU's proposed constitution. In his place he's named loyalist Dominique de Villepin to the post. "It's like re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Chirac has a lame duck government now and the problems of rejuvenating the reform process are huge," said David Brown, chief European economist at investment bank Bear Stearns.
Radley Balko, at Tech Central Station, notes that grocers are using "big box" legislation to keep Rochester, N.Y.-based grocery chain Wegman's out of their backyard. If you can't beat them (and they can't), outlaw them...
The Vietnamese Paris Hilton has been sent to "re-education camp." Meanwhile Paris and Paris are set to marry.
Bob Geldoff is staging another Live Aid, to be called Live 8, but the reunion of the Spice Girls won't be getting an invite. According to Live 8 spokesman the event, aimed at banishing Third World debt, is "a political rally to put pressure on world leaders." The July 2nd concerts in London, Paris, Berlin, Rome and Philadelphia aim to generate a groundswell of support for the international Make Poverty History campaign in the run-up to the G8 conference in Gleneagles, Scotland, on July 6-8.

I see, LIVE AID INC. has decreed that only "serious" artists may participate in this upcoming concert to end world poverty..this is to be a political rally to pressure world leaders( mainly US)? SOmehow I dont think anyone of substance in the Bush administration will be paying attention to this stupidity

As a former Rochestarian, I can tell you why Wegman's is "taking over": great product, low price, EXCELLENT customer service. (Not to mention they treat their employees well.) Plus their stores are largely wood-paneled with ambient lighting, which is a refreshing change from the traditional bright-white grocery store. Wegman's feels like a down-home grocery store, despite its size. By contrast, walking into one of their competitors feels like a visit to the ER.

I would hesitate to use "Tech Central Station" as a source, if I were you. Their widely copied and wildly inaccurate commentary on the connections between Hussein and Al Qaida struck the death knell for their credibility so far as I'm concerned.
(Anyone who wants to check up, Powell's testimony before the UN is archived at whitehouse.gov, and it doesn't say half the things they claim it does.)

Banish poverty?
Anytime rich people start talking about banishing poverty its time to grab your wallett and hang on for dear life.
Maybe we could start by taking a couple of zeroes off the net worth of the rock stars.

Is it just me, or is the EU in rapid decline and soon to be extinct, just like the Left in the US?
Sorry if you disagree with me, so don't let the pesky facts bother you.
