"The idea that this is a puff piece is just absurd. And it's part of this left-wing attack machine that David Brock has invented for himself in his shame."
John Cloud, author of the Time magazine cover story on Ann Coulter, interviewed by Brian Montopoli at CJR Daily. Don't miss his other quotes on Brock, "He is also a serial liar," and "That's his other history -- David Brock has a history of smear jobs. And this is a smear job against me personally."
I read the Ann Coulter article in Time Magazine, and it's far from being a puff piece. Besides the cover photo which makes her look like an anorexic madwoman, the tone of the article -- in my opinion -- was designed to neutralize her effectiveness as a conservative commentator. The writer did attempt to be fair, which is something David Brock should consider when writing his own moonbat diatribes.

BTW, the photo of Coulter that graces the cover of Time reminds me of the Alice in Wonderland character in the 1985 music video by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for their song "Don't Come Around Here No More."

I don't get it. In the CJR Daily article, Cloud agrees with what Brock said and verifies that Brock's statement is true. He confirms that Brock is neither lying nor smearing him. So what's Cloud so upset about?

Eric Alterman (no relation) "Time's cover story/whitewash of Ann Coulter ... will make it impossible for serious people to accept what the magazine reports at face value ever again. It is as if Time had contracted a journalistic venereal disease from Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly and is now seeking to lower itself to their level in pursuit of their ideologically-obsessed audiences."
I think what gets Eric Alterman so upset about this story is that while he may left wing equivalent of Ann Coulter he is too damn ugly to ever make the cover. And he is jealous.

Jim,
This is exactly what I thought when I saw the cover.... Being a child of the 80's I loved that video. It's a bit creepy when Alice turns into a lifesize cake and Petty cuts a chunk out of her.
