One gimmick employed by Daily Kos is a list of eight Democratic candidates for House seats that their site has "endorsed." They are known as the dKoz8. What Daily Koz does for the candidates is provide publicity and nationwide fundraising for the underdog and usually underfunded candidates. Contributors are urged to donate dollar amounts ending in .01 cent to provide the campaigns with a rudimentary means of matching contributions to the Daily Kos readership.
All of this left me wondering, "why the right side of the blogosphere isn't conducting a similar operation?"
-crickets-
It's time to throw the collective weight of conservative blogs against one of the mainstays of blogging material, the nut-job tin foil brigade in Congress. Rather than focus on Republican candidates a national audience would have no reason to know, it seems more logical to throw our support behind Republican challengers to incumbents who specialize in crafting and publicly wearing their own tinfoil hats. I've compiled a list of seven Democratic members of Congress who no self-respecting Republican would shed a tear over loosing a re-election.
- Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) is vying for an open seat against Catherine Davis
Jim Moran (D-VA) challenged by Lisa Marie Cheney
Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) challenged by Ed Herman
Barbara Lee (D-CA) challenged by Claudia Bermudez
Loretta Sanchez (D-CA) challenged by Dr. Alexandria Coronado
Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) challenged by Jennifer DePalma
There's still room for one more *** - suggest your least favorite.
You might be wondering what about the challengers campaign issues? To that I say, "who cares?" Obviously their core issue is defeating one of the Wizbang Seven in the November elections. That's an issue I can support 100%. How about you?
Oh yeah, spread the word...
Update: Redstate has a whole section of endorsments.
*** Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX) has no Republican opposition. There is an Independent challenger Thomas Bazan.

Actually, redstate.org has been doing this for some time now. Using the same $0.02 donations "suffix" idea to help ID their contributors. Just FYI - Steve C.

Steve, since RedState started just a couple weeks ago they haven't been doing anything "for some time." That's not a knock, just an explanation of why I didn't know about it...

It might be a better idea to target candidates in competitive districts only. The wrath of the rightwing blogosphere may be mighty, but trying to get a Republican elected in Pelosi's San Francisco district is an exercise in throwing your money away.

Kevin, Yes, my choice of phrase was poor there. "For a little while," would have been better. And, I'm certainly not knocking your efforts. To the contrary, mega props. Being and Ohio boy, guess I'll need to get behind Ed Herman!

I didn't forget Sheila Jackson Lee and Eddie Bernice Johnson. Johnson is running unopposed, and Jackson-Lee is running against an Independent.
Waxman's an interesting idea. Another gold mine is the list of signers of Johnson's call for UN election observers...

I live in Georgia's 4th district and would love to see Cynthia McKinney go down in flames, but Davis has no chance. There are no well-known Republicans in Dekalb County - they have all moved to the suburbs in Cobb, Gwinnett and north Fulton counties.

One suggestion is Ed Laning who's going up against Joe Baca in CA, for the reasons described here. However, given the D/R breakdown, the demographics, and his apparent lack of money, he might not have much of a chance. Another possibility is Vernon Robinson in NC.

Why limit it to House seats though? Plenty of important Senate seats up for grabs (arguably more important than the House)
Just curious....
And given that, I think Barbara Boxer (D-CA)qualifies as sufficiently goofy to warrant a link to support her challenger, Bill Jones.

Thought I would shed a little light. Claudia Bermdudez is going up against Barbara Lee - There is a long history there that goes back to the communists in Nicaragua - See her website for more details. - Claudia is raising a fair amount of funds - the key to this race is exposing Lee's voting record - it is really really bad.
The district is large, and less than 1/3rd of the district votes - Claudia is giving them a reason to go to the poles - intelligent, articulate, and has a lot of energy - another plus is that she is attractive, when people meet her - they want to support her. (She is also the only "Latin" congressional candidate that speaks Spanish - and she does so fluently)
People in the area are excited, as they have not seen this much activity in a long time - no one has actually run a serious campaign against her - Claudia is doing just that -
If we do not start fighting some of these battles, how are we ever going to turn the areas around - when the truth is exposed - anything can happen. Claudia just needs to get the word out and motivate less then 30% of the district to go out and vote - and she can do what others have seen as impossible - it just takes money.
Claudia is the right candidate at the right time. We have had many Democrats say they are tired of Lee's politics - and we are very encouraged.
