As a Cubs fan this is great... (Below threshold)1. Posted by Chad Evans | July 31, 2004 9:59 PM | Score: 0 (0 votes cast)
As a Cubs fan this is great news. They didn't have to give up much to get Nomar. Now as someone who finds Nomar's constant playing with his batting gloves, I'm tuning off my WGN.

no one is talking about the job theo epstien did here. ya he gave up one of the best 6's in the game and got seemingly nothing in return, but that is on the surface. the sox have, to put it nicely, struggled in the field. They now can keep ortiz's glove in the dugout were it belongs in favor of one of the best defensive first baseman in the game.
the sox are really set for pitching, mabey they need some bullpen help, but you cant have it all. There bats are among the best in the game and now they have upgraded the glove. i say good job theo and watchout yank's, there is alot of time left.

Well we lost Nomar, but we got not only Mintkeiwicz, but Orlando Cabrera and Dave Roberts as well, the first two of those being former golden glovers.
So once Pokey Reese returns, that's a gold glove infield except for 3rd base. Not a bad move considering our defense has been terrible to date, and Nomar was probably gone this year anyways. I'm excited to see how it works out.

I don't give a flying fig about sports in general, or the Red Sox in particular, but I just wanted to publicly express my sympathy to the guy here in Cow Hampshire with the license plate "NOMAH." He must be feeling pretty screwed right about now...
