George Plimpton best known as the author of "Paper Lion", died yesterday. Others have wondered about his semi-obscurity. I wanted to share a link to one of the all time great pranks perpetrated by Plimpton: The Curious Case of Sidd Finch. If the Finch story sounds familiar, pieces of it clearly had an influence on movies like Bull Durham and The Scout. The Museum Of Hoaxes has more background on the article.
Plimpton left a little hidden message in the April 1, 1985 byline:
He's a pitcher, part yogi and part recluse. Impressively liberated from our opulent life-style, Sidd's deciding about yoga -- and his future in baseball
That would be: Happy April Fools Day
Update: This is why I should always remember to visit Michele before doing obits.

Plimpton's corpse could still do a better job leading the Lions than Harrington!
